Update to WikiCamps version 6 from your app store.
While most of the filters in WikiCamps work by being set to either Show or Hide a specific sort of site or piece of information, the Site Features filters work a little differently.
You may notice that the toggle on this filter can switch between 3 states:
- Neutral (Grey)
- With (Green)
- Hide (Red)
Curious about what these three options mean for you when setting your filters? Read on...
Neutral (Grey)
This is the default state of all Site Feature filters in WikiCamps. It pays to remember that the default filters (except the dislike filter) always show everything. You will always reduce the number of sites you can see when you apply filters.
So, the Neutral state of the Site Features filter will show all sites - regardless of whether they do or don't have the feature in question.
Maybe think of it like this:
Setting a neutral filter is like saying "I don't mind whether or not the sites I want to search for have this feature."
E.g. "I don't mind whether or not the sites I want to search for have toilets."
With (Green)
The first time you tap a site feature filter, it will toggle to green and show 'With'.
The 'With' state will only show sites that do have the feature in question.
Maybe think of it like this:
Setting a 'With' filter is like saying "The sites I want to search for must have this feature."
E.g. "The sites I want to search for must have toilets."
Hide (Red)
If you tap a site feature a second time, it will toggle to red and show 'Hide'.
The 'Hide' state will hide all sites that do have the feature in question.
(In other words, it will only show sites that do not have the feature in question).
Maybe think of it like this:
Setting a 'Hide' filter is like saying "The sites I want to search for must not have this feature."
E.g. "The sites I want to search for must not have toilets."
Bringing it all together
When you are searching for specific sorts of sites, remember these additional tips and try thinking through your filters based on the sentences above.
- WikiCamps can only filter based on the information in the app. If a free camp has drinking water but the feature isn't marked on that site, WikiCamps doesn't know that it has drinking water. You can edit sites to help keep them up-to-date and make filters work even better!
- The effects of multiple filters add up. If you add more filters, it's like saying "and" in the sentences above.
E.g. Setting the "free" feature to 'With' and the "4WD Access Only" to 'Hide' is like saying:
"The sites I want to see must be free and must not be only accessible by 4WD."
And just like that, you've filtered for 2WD friendly free camps!
Didn't quite work? Got stuck?
Don't worry, you can always reset your filters using the 'Reset All' button and try again.
