In "Explore" you can browse the map, use filters and search to find sites. This article contains an overview of the features available as you explore WikiCamps.
Map view
When you view the map, you will see the most popular sites in the displayed area.
As you move the map and zoom in or out, the sites displayed will change dynamically to represent what the WikiCamps community loves most in the area you're viewing.
A handy count at the bottom of the screen will show how many sites are located in your map area, so you can check if there might be more to see by zooming in.
List view
The new WikiCamps list view is always within easy reach of the map and allows you to quickly see all of the sites available in the map area you are looking at.
Viewing a site
Tapping on a pin will display the site overview card, to find a quick summary of the site.
Tap on the overview card or on a site in the list view to view all the site details.
Site details
The site details page contains everything you need to know about the site, from location, contact details, description and features, to reviews, photos and fees submitted by other WikiCampers.
Site features
The site features card will show icons for all of the features applicable on a site. You can tap on an icon to reveal a tooltip describing the icon or press "View feature details" to see a list of all the features on this site the feature descriptions.
Viewing reviews
Read the reviews of a site by:
- Tapping the "# Rating, # Reviews" link at the top of the site details page, located next to the site's rating summary
OR
- Tapping "View ratings and reviews" on the site's ratings card, located below the site description.
Viewing photos
You can browse the first few photos of a site directly from the details page, or press "View all" to see the gallery of images for that site.
Viewing fees
Check the fees submitted by other users by tapping on the "View fees" link at the top of the site details page, located next to the site's fee category.
Using your location
You can find the Location button on the lower right screen of the Explore page. Tapping this button will move the map display to centre over your current location.
Unable to find location
To use location-based features in WikiCamps, follow these steps:
- Check GPS Hardware: Ensure your device has the necessary GPS hardware.
- Enable Location Services: Make sure your location services are turned on for WikiCamps and that the app has permission to access your location.
- If your device lacks GPS capabilities, connect to a Wi-Fi network with a known location. Your device will use this network to estimate your location.
Please note: Using WiFi to determine location may be less accurate, as it relies on the information provided by your internet service provider.
Getting directions / Navigation apps
WikiCamps integrates with a number of navigational providers to help you find directions to your next location.
Use "Get Directions" to navigate to a site with your preferred navigation provider:
- Locating the site you want to visit
- Find the Directions button
- From there, choose the navigation app you want to use
And that’s it, directions will open in your preferred navigation provider app or website.
